That's kinda funny, but don't they have police cars to chase you down?
Why don't they try and apprehend people who do that?
I think there was in fact a patrol car there. According to my friend, there used to be cases where people dressed up as police to rob travellers. So its "ok" for us not to stop. Among that, women are told not to step out of their cars during the night especially during car accidents which are sometimes caused intentionally.
I can't say for the real reason why they don't chase the offenders but I presume no one will risk their life on a highway chase for a couple of bahts. They are afterall, there just to make some coffee money... if you know what I mean.
I've never seen anyone resist in Bkk tho; maybe these cops are more hardcore.
More likely to get caught in a traffic jam and the police catching up in Bangkok.

Totally irrelevant but last year I witnessed a car passed toll without paying. It slowed down at the 15 baht toll at Ngam Wong Wan and suddenly just sped off without paying. The attendant was mad and radioed someone. But I think that car got away. I thought it was funny too.... breaking the law for 15 baht....
