Well they have tried to carry on with the older customs and it has not changed that much in my lifetime.
I do not know about "extended family" households, But yes some are with different generations sharing one family home, where most are in family groups who live next door to each other, but whole villages are mostly of an extended family where everyone in a neighborhood are cousins, aunts, uncles, inlaws, and grandparents.
