most of these soi dogs are really a sorry sight, sick and skinny and scared. I'm staying near Wat Chiang Man, that temple takes care of at least 30 stray dogs, they are in much better shape. monk friends told me that they need to take care of dogs because bad monks become stray dogs in their next life
so they feel responsible.
I've been bitten by a (probably) rabid dog once (it intended to attack a motorcyclist making a loud noise with his vehicle but I happened to be in the way). the bite was on my calf luckily, but the wound took almost three months to heal, as it was really deep and got infected despite all the antibiotics, tetanus shot and rabies shots I got. it's nasty, I tell you. and you just never know when it will happen. so that's why I prefer to keep a distance. I wouldn't want to imagine what a scared dog could do to a child. and it's just the matter of a split second.
