In my observation, there is very little international news on Thai television, and what news there is does not go into the kind of depth that is needed to develop a good understanding of the issues. Even regional issues in Southeast Asia don't seem to be covered very well. Far more time is taken up with football scores and highlights than with any news of real impact in the world.
