If you do get up to New York, there is a good Thai grocery store on Mosco street (between Mulberry and Mott) in Chinatown called Bangkok Groceries. It carries a lot of sauces, spices, pastes etc... from Thailand and the owner knows how to find what you are looking for. Around the corner on Mulberry is Asian Groceries, which carries a lot of fresh asian produce, including Thai ingredients. I can usually find almost everything I am looking for in these two places.
