Lyon, I suggest,is more of an industrial town than a resort - long associated with weaving and twinned with the once very industrialised Birmingham UK.
But it certainly is "business" centre -and a "tourism centre" as well ?

There is a "resort" of "Leon" in south-west France, I have since discovered.

But, I must admit, this does seem to be a very minor place for a city of the size and prestige of Chiang Mai to be twinned with. Lyon would make more sense in terms of prestige and the long common history of silk weaving -Thai mudmee silk worn by a Thai ambassador to the French court in 1685 was so admired it was copied in Lyon.

(I just copied the article as was from "Bangkok Post" as it continued Richard's post on relations between the two countries and must admit, (again), I did not take much notice of the French place name !)
