Phar Lap was a New Zealand horse that the Aussies appropriated when he started winning races. They also stole our pavlovas, Crowded House, Fred Hollows, all our best league players and anything else of merit, claiming them as their own. (We were happy to give them Jo Bielke-Peterson, but in return they gave us bloody possums).
