Fish thrive in the Chao Phraya - mainly catfish, telapia, and prawns that are farmed for restaurants. The river carries a high silt load, but upstream of the city it isn't that polluted. I learned to water ski in the Chao Phraya at Koh Khred and fell off many times, involuntarily drinking lots of water without coming to any harm. I once got a bad cut on my forehead from the ski, but it didn't go septic. But that was a long time ago when I was bullet-proof and the river was cleaner.
