Default Getting...... a thai drivers licence
For the sake of me daughter, and a tear in my eye, ive decided to delve into me saving and purchase a new car.

Even though ive had a scrappy car before i just let me 'ex' drive it most of the time as i was teaching in such a congested area, it was quicker to walk to work than drive.

I'd like to take the opportunity here to ask yous ex-pats out there who have a Thai drivers licence the procedure of getting one.
The reports i heard last week were contradictory in that one said i had to take the test at the drivers licence gaff near Morchid in Bangkok and another said 'No, you can take the test anywhere'.

Next, being a freelance translator of Thai>Eng ive been asked twice over the past year to translate a Thai drivers licence to English as me clients needed it: one, to 'rent a car' in the US and another from a Thai lady who was buying a car in New Zealand.

I was quite suprised that a Thai drivers licence trans to English was enough for these western countries as in the past here in Thailand when on wanting a licence, even though you couldnt drive a Honda Dream Bike let alone a car, only had to slide the 'tester' a few hundered under the seat and he/she would pass you straight off

Please verify, if true, which western countries accept a Thai Drivers Licence.

Pls dont advise on any of those agents in the English dailies here that offer 'international licences' for a few thousand baht because dear readers they are fake! I hold the proper visa requirements.

Thanks
