If you do not use a converter (or if your appliance does not have a built-in converter) you will instantly burn out your appliance if you plug it into Thai outlets. Better hotels have both systems and/or converters for use in the hotel. Check your appliance; it may say that it operates on 110~240 volts, meaning no converter is needed for either US or Thai use.
