As she is half Thai it is doubtful the same rules would apply. Somehow, they would need to bring the subject up. It is true that the groom is required to pay "compensation" to the bride's family. As far as customs go, there are already quite a few good topics on this forum already. Just do a search! (Hint, you need to be a registered member to do a search!)
