I live in a crypt. There's a below-ground courtyard outside and one year, with torrential rain lashing down onto the steep roof of the church, the drains were blocked and a lake started to form outside, rising steadily. It was getting perilously closer to the level of the step outside the door from the living room when I ventured out into the relentless storm, armed with a hastily-improvised tool to dig out the fetid, stinking gunk in the drains. Having saved the flat from catastrophe, I must have good about myself for an entire day afterwards. :cloud9:
