Muhdalina ‘may have been under a spell’
Reports by ZUHRIN AZAM AHMAD, LEE YEN MUN, M. KUMAR and AUSTIN CAMOENS
PUTRAJAYA: The family of Muhdalina Ahmad, who went on a rampage with Khalil Afandi Abd Hamid with samurai swords, claimed that she might have been under a spell.
Her husband, known only as Yusof, said she had been behaving strangely recently.
“I noticed that she was very obsessed about the man although she only got to know him through his blog,” he said, adding that he was aware of her online friendship with the man.
In shock: Muhdalina’s mother Siti Marliah Marjunit carrying Mia Ratisha while keeping an eye on Mohd Faiz Khorizmi at the Putrajaya hospital park.
“I think she only got to know him last week. I don't think she would simply follow the man to do things like that. Maybe she was under a spell,” said Yusof, who had come from Klang to visit Muhdalina at the hospital here, where she is being treated for a gunshot wound.
The Port Klang worker said both he and his wife lived with their two children, Mohd Fariz Khorizmi, two, and Mia Ratisha, one, in Rantau Panjang, Klang.
A check at the hospital's isolation ward found the woman in a black scarf lying on a bed being guarded by two policewomen. She has been placed under remand by the police.
Ahmad said the family could not believe Muhdalina was involved in the incident.
Her father,
nasi lemak
seller Ahmad Adam, said the family could not believe what she had done, adding that Muhdalina was a good daughter.
“Although she was a UIAM (International Islamic University Malaysia) graduate, her knowledge of Islam is average. We also know nothing about the man until he made headlines in the newspapers.
“I think my daughter must have been influenced by the man's claim that he was the Imam Mahadi,” said the 55-year-old, adding that Muhdalina, the second of four siblings, had stopped working as an assistant manager in a private company without telling them.
“I never thought this could happen. My daughter was leading a normal life. Maybe it was because she likes to surf the Internet,” he said, lamenting that despite her university education, Muhdalina had ended up in such a quandary.
“I'm sorry about what she did,” he said, adding that he only knew of the incident after he was asked to come to the Putrajaya police headquarters when he called her handphone.
