Default Johor and S'pore cops to boost cooperation
JOHOR BARU - Johor police will step up cooperation with their Singapore counterparts to combat cross-border crime and change the perception that the city is a crime-prone area.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the police had started working with officials from the Jurong police division.

"The first step was to hand out pamphlets with information on how not to fall victim to crime, and the important numbers to call during an emergency," he said in his speech at the Johor police monthly assembly here yesterday.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said the pamphlets would be distributed at various places in Singapore and in the Johor Baru city area.

He also said that Johor police had completed investigations into 4,687 cases this year.

"We have recorded a 8.73 per cent reduction in the crime rate for the state as compared to the same period last year," he added.

During the assembly, DCP Mohd Mokhtar handed out certificates of promotion to Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Che Mahazan Che Aik and Nusajaya OCPD Supt Noor Hashim Mohamad along with 11 other police officers.

He also handed out certificates of appreciation to 12 civilians who helped the police.
