The controversial painting Dust
A teacher, who was once a nude model, has sued an artist after he auctioned off an oil painting of her.
Xiao Mei (not her real name), has filed a 500,000 Yuan suit with a court in Hunan province of China.
She also demanded that the painter Wang Hongzheng put up a public apology advertisement in newspapers.
Five years ago, Xiao Mei was one of the three models introduced by a modeling agency to pose nude for Wang.
She was paid 2,000 Yuan.
Later, Xiao Mei became a teacher.
Wang and one of his artworks
Last year, she found out that Wang had displayed the painting, named
Dust
, at his art exhibitions and had put it up for public auction. She was alerted by her gossiping students and their parents.
Some parents complained that she had damaged the image of teachers by posing nude.
Xiao Mei said Wang had violated her rights, reputation and privacy.
On Sunday, the court instructed Wang to pay compensation of 300,000 Yuan to Xiao Mei.
The court also ruled that Wang had displayed the painting without Xiao Mei's consent and in doing that, had damaged her reputation as a teacher.Wang has appealed against the verdict.
