The partnership was Tesla was huge. The new Prius plug-in can get 200mpg for a tank-unfortunately, at a cost of $48,000 MSRP. It'll be big in Hollywood, I guess. For $5,000, you can modify a Prius today to have that same capability but with better fuel economy. I don't know what Toyota is doing to cause their less efficient version to be $15,000 more.

Hopefully this will bridge the gap since fuel cell development has slowed down a bit.
