If only it were that simple. We've been drawn into, and taken sides in, a long standing regional and cultural conflict that we little understand, and have no reason being involved in. Two good reads on the subject:

This conflict has been going on for 40 years now. The idea that if we set a date for withdrawal we insure our defeat is just silly. How can we win a war that is not ours, and that we really don't begin to understand?
