You are correct...this did amuse me.

Maybe they will ban statues now.

When statues are outlawed, only outlaws will have statues.

Or

Statues don't injure people, only madmen throwing statues injure people.

(or as my brother once famously reasoned - drinking and driving isn't the problem so much as drinking and crashing).
