Hannibal woulda crushed PETA with his elephants. I know, I know ... PETA's not part of this story, but I love elephants. Especially ones used in war.

My understanding is that Hannibal's elephants crushed Hannibal's own troops. Their use seemed to be more of a gimmick, not really a tactical weapon. Sadly, their exploitation continues today, with confinement in tiny displays in zoos and forced to do stupid tricks in circuses.
