Establishing a demilitarized zone a 1/2 a mile from the border is not practical, it's almost as insane as the landmines idea. You do realize people currently live along the border, right?

You've heard of eminent domain, right? Except, this time, rather than give the property to friends of politicians, use it for public use: Something to keep illegals out. Same process could and would be done for a wall, moat, etc.

How about this, we establish some sort of guestworker program. There, now can I say that landmines and a demilitarized zone is insane? Hmm, exactly how would a guest worker program keep people from sneaking across the border without having immigrated lawfully?
