I wasn't just referring to the ones lately, and I just said I wouldn't be surprised... but I asked this question myself about a year or so ago. It SEEMS like there has been a general escalation in them...but that doesn't make it so.
there was a spot on the news talking about the crashes. in 2008 there were 109 crashes vs 100 crashes in 2007. what was more shocking, I suppose, is that 100 less people died. It used ot be a plane went down and everyone died. Aside form the miracle on the hudson, it's pretty amazing how many survived in amsterdam. that plane looked to be in pretty bad shape. they attribute "survival" to improved safety systems and materials.
