I was wondering> Why not take a small plane from Santiago to Hinche? There is a landing strip there. You can probably charter an aircraft at the Santiago airport. Check it out at least.
Hinche is certainly tucked away. And the option of going to San Juan de la Maguana is a good one if you are thinking of taking a Land Rover-type vehicle across the border at Bánica, but roads are probably bad to really bad.
Access from the north (Cap Haitian) or south (Port-au-Prince) seems to be difficult and time consuming...
