I totally agree with you DMV123.
First, you and everyone else who wants to help but feel helpless, close your eyes, then imagine and visualize the face of your daughter, your sister, your mother or some very special woman in your life being violated and raped in Haiti. Then, meditate on that picture! I bet you would find a way to help change some of this violence and positively impact these victims. I'd even venture to say that Bob S. might be the first in line to go there and help in some capacity!
I'm a 20yr military veteran, been around the world and back, seen a lot especially evil against women. When you are really sincere and serious you'll find a way to help starting with a visit to the country, and it won't be just lip service!
I agree with you in many ways. I don't need to close my eyes and imagine it - I have lived it and I know first hand what it can do to your life.

that being said - it is not right to say if you are serious you will go there. It can do more harm then good. People unprepared or with the wrong skill sets may do far more harm then good. Some of us belong in other roles, fund raising, donating, getting the word out, effecting policy.

I for one could not handle going there! I am better suited in other roles and I am still serious about helping.
