Man shot to dead in a fatal hail of bullets

A police officer arrives at a south Vancouver townhouse complex where Richard Wong was shot dead Saturday night.

20-year-old Kyle Richard Wong was shot and killed as he arrived home at his townhouse complex on the 8600 block of Aqua Drive near South East Marine Drive and Victoria Drive at 8:30 p.m. PT on Saturday.

Homicide investigators from the Vancouver Police Department spent much of the night canvassing the neighbourhood and looking for evidence.
Const. Tim Fanning said one witness reported hearing as many as nine shots.

"There was a firearm that was recovered last night. We can tell you there were a number of shots fired, but obviously we can't tell you how many," said Fanning.

Jillian Quitzon was visiting a friend in the complex when she heard gunshots.

"We heard bang - bang - bang - stop - bang - bang - bang, and that's about it. And then the next thing you knew there were cops taping up, and casings were, like, actually right … on the driveway," said Quitzon.

Fanning said neighbours at the normally quiet family-oriented complex came out after Wong was shot and tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him.
