I think I generally agree with your review of The Rachel Papers. It certainly is intrusive on the part of its author, and many of the criticisms you offer are ones often applied to Amis' work (even by Kingsley!) And yet I, like you, enjoyed it every bit of the way. It's a real young writer's novel; Amis knew he could write and wanted everyone else to know it.
