From what I've read, Littell wallows in the sadistic aspects.
For me, to know if this is true, I'd have to pick up it (and no doubt do myself an injury; it's
huge
!) and determine whether authorial intrusion does indeed wallow in such stuff or whether Littell is only being true to his character as it is, after all, told in the first person. Is it his character who revels in the sadistic or the author?
