Well, Damocles didn't make it, the sword fell elsewhere. But what Lizzy says does make the novel sound intriguing. Have any of you found a website on the net where there are details of any other Hermans books translated into English? I can read them in Dutch, but you can't really recommend untranslated books to English-speaking friends. Beyond Sleep is one other I know of.
