My colloquial French isn't up to it, but those of you that have a good command of France and French, at all levels, could maybe glean something from such chat, sometimes inane, sometimes more to the point, at:

Language divides us, alas, from the debate going on in the country where Zeller is writing. We often think that we, speakers of the most widespread language in the world, English, are the mondial arbiters of taste. But we would be humbled, no doubt, were we to find out what others think on various subjects in other languages. Even French and German alone would provide huge additional vistas.
As Zeller's field of operations includes Islam and Egypt as well, it would be fascinating to find out how his books are received in North Africa.
Another interesting statistic would be to compare the 70,000 copies sold in France of the book with the British figures, and analyse what the difference depends on.
Books are interesting as social phenomena as well as literary artefacts.
