Investigators from the income-tax departmen on Friday morning knocked on the doors of famou Malayalam movie actor Mammootty and Mohanla in Chennai as part of simul taneous raids in 18 places in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, I-T sources said here.

The searches were con ducted in the residences and business establishments of the actors in Kerala while in Chennai, it was conducted in the Greenways Road extension residence of Mammootty and house and apartment belonging to the kin of Mohanlal.

Mammootty, star of the famous movie Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, was present at his Chennai residence when the I-T sleuths arrived, while Mohanlal, who did the lead role in Iruvar, was reportedly shooting abroad.

Later, in the evening, Mammootty took a flight to Kochi to present himself before the I-T officials there. “Mammootty’s preliminary response was recorded in Chennai and his detailed statement would be taken here as soon as he reaches Kochi,“ an I-T official said.

Apart from Chennai, the raids were conducted at Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru and Ooty.
In Kochi, I-T sleuths searched the residences of Mammootty and Mohanlal at Panampilly Nagar and Thevara. DC CORRESPONDENTS THIRUVANANTHAPUAM / KOCHI Documents relat ing to unaccounted wealth including landed properties, priceless antiques, ivory and bundles of currency notes amounting to several crores have been recovered by the Income Tax officials from the houses and commercial establishments of Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal. The IT officials conducted surprise checks at 16 spots, including residences and commercial establishments of the actors, in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Bangalore and Ooty on Friday.

Residences and offices of Mohanlal’s close aide and producer Antony Perumbavoor in Kochi, and a chartered accountant M.B.Sanalkumar in Thiruvananthapuram were also raided.

More than 100 IT officials commenced the raids simultaneously at 6.30 a.m. at all the 16 spots. The raid was continuing till late in the night in Kochi and other places.
