It seems to me that this comes mostly from fear, but also from conditioning by the materialists. Remember school? What were you taught? That everything is material and anything that isn't, isn't real. It's a sad thing to see. Schools condition our young ones to think materialism is the only reality. Those that think differently are made fun of and after a while, you quit talking about it and think there's something wrong with you if you have different experiences. So you get set in the materialist world view and if something comes along that questions that, you become of afraid. The question is are they afraid of being right or being wrong? Or perhaps they want to believe, but are afraid the materialist are right and therefore won't look into it because it's better to not know than to find out the materialists are right and there is nothing else.
