The Jewel At The Heart
="color: rgb(0, 0, 191);"font size="3" ="font-family: comic sans ms;"
Last night I found myself saying to my husband (as he gazed at himself
obsessively in the mirror at a non-existent receding hairline...) that
I would love him ALWAYS, no matter what he looked like, if he lost all
his limbs and had 3rd degree burns all over his body or whatever. And I
mean it! I have felt this way for a while. Simon is a very handsome
man, don't get me wrong. And when I met him 13 years ago, I will admit
that I was attracted to his beautiful blue eyes, his height etc...but
even then, it was the spark within, a certain warmth that emminated
from his heart, that I fell in love with.
I believe that true love is beyond the physical.
In this media obsessed world, a world in which many cultures still
treat women as 2nd class citizens and obsess over women's bodies -
either covering them from head to foot to "protect" men's eyes from
them, or stripping them down to g-string bikinis or less - I don't feel
that this is a lesson the world has learnt.
Do you think we will ever live in a world that loves beyond the physical, where true compassion reigns?
