i lived in santa barbara, ca, for 35 years, and traveled over the state often. i am an energy healer and sensitive to energetic patterns. the 'vibes' of la and las vegas, nv, are much too much for me...chaotic. san francisco is calmer and not bad for a city. santa barbara is beautiful with the city tucked between mountains and the ocean, and the city's polarities are strong. 'the sun shines brightest when the shadows are darkest', so, while there is a broad strata of consciously living folks, there is also a negative intensity about working constantly 'to keep one's head above water' for those not well-heeled, and another kind of intensity to keeping up appearances for those who 'have money'.

now i live in rural new england, and find this energy to be a welcome return to the four seasons...the life, death and resurrection cycle... the forced restfullness of being snowed-in and the changing displays of nature and wildlife. this is still a predominantly mental culture, with the protestant work ethic driving many, ... a bit of rigidity with wisdom mixed in with ignorance...but i am enjoying the trees and others who are on this wonder path of knowing truth.
