my 'picture' of community is one that has a diverse group living in close proximity to one another. this 'community' helps each other, build, plant, harvest and socialize much like the amish without the religion or lack of modern amenities. each is free to be whatever they are, just willing to be available to help each other with what needs helping. maybe one family gardens while another makes firewood. one family has cows and someone else keeps chickens. there can be a barter or all can participate equally. i don't think it should be rigid, it should flow and flux like life itself. if all are sto no one would be slacking, and the group could enjoy much prosperity and joy.
the upcoming changes will be significant. i think that a certain survivalist mindset is necessary. i don't think anyone should be afraid, just prepared to be totally self contained should the need arise. meanwhile, the benefit of close friendly neighbors that have some clue about what is really happening can provide an accepting social circle.
these are some thoughts off the top of my head, perhaps others have better ideas?
