if someone asked you this question what would you tell them? i think the core of community (like this one) is a common or shared belief or set of beliefs. im interested to see what everyone else thinks, i will be thinking about this one for a bit.
i find this an intriguing question. i've 'lurked' around various forums before, but never really made an earnest attempt to participate. i sort of admired the expertise and passion of those that posted, and just sought to learn as much as i could.

so what draws people in? maybe not so much the shared beliefs, but the shared goals. people who want questions answered, and maybe are exploring various ways of doing that. on a very pragmatic level, it might deal with technology and people relating their various experiences with certain products and companies. on a different level are forums that explore the notions of personality, and in these forums, the notion of spirituality and the things that encircle that.

so a shared mission i would say.
