one explanation i liked was from the 'cassiopaean transcript' which described the number of the beast as 'visa'. apparently it comes from the vi which is roman numeral for 6. i cant remember which language the s & a came from but each of those also represented the number 6.
kind of made sense to me cause because i think credit cards are evil.
