i have a collection of 11 quartz crystal bowls and 7 in metal alloy. the difference is the source of the technology. one is new the other is ancient. in tibet, the munks would use these as a way to induce a relaxed "altered state of meditation". the idea is to introduce "beat frequencies" that harmonize the mind. these frequencies are generally under the level of hearing range. the way to get around that is to introduce two different signals where the difference is the frequency that is desired - one signal at 300 hz pluss one at 307 hz will produce a "wow wow" effect that the mind can detect. its just like two jet engines that are a little out of synk.

the crystal bowls have an amazing resonance that is very pure and they are very good for singing overtones to. i use them to make meditation cds.

these bell tones do affect the chakra systems although i am not sure of the science behind what does what. i do know that i have experienced a kundalini awakening with bell sounds of the right frequency. i have had feedback that several people listening to my meditation cds have experienced the same. the kundalini is what happens when the energy from all the chakras are connected together in synk. i experienced it as a natural vibration throughout the body where my back was a blue rod and a red ball of energy went up and down for over 5 minutes. it was exhausting - an orgasm - but at the same time it gave me energy like i have never felt before - i was up for 3 days without the need to sleep.

crystal bowls are marketed as white frosted and coated with different metals. i would suggest the white frosted ones since they cost less and are very clean and clear. mine are not in a clear and cut a - g note range since they are purchased at different alternative conventions here in norway. a set is very expensive. if you can find one used - get them without thinking twice.
