To euthanize or not to euthanize
i am struggling right now with whether to let my 14 year old cat die slowly and peacefully at home or to take her to the vet and have her put down. there is nothing anyone can do to save her; it’s just a matter of time.
she’s not eating or drinking and she can barely walk. she bleeds off and on but not a lot. she doesn’t seem in pain, but her quality of life has completely diminished. she walks in circles if she walks at all. her eyes are very murky. she’s fading away, slowly.
just because she doesn’t appear to be suffering, how could she not be?
we can’t help people end their suffering, but we can help animals. i don’t know what to do. i’m torn. would it be more traumatic to take her to the vet at this point when she likely only has a few days left?
is it selfish of me to not want to watch her slowly die? am i thinking about myself rather than my animal? i just want to do the humane thing. she’s been a part of my life for a long time.
