i have been accessing my equivalent of the “dream voice” and interpreting my dreams since the early 90’s and, without the benefit of david's guidance and inspiration, took a slightly different approach to the same end.
my path first directed me to a process i now call “soul centering,” which involves relaxing, clearing the mind, then connecting with the soul’s energy in the heart and filling the whole body and field with this higher frequency of energy. you can follow this by visualizing the light of your higher self above you and bringing this energy down, which raises your vibrations further. with a bit of practice, you can use this simple technique to connect with your higher wisdom, which is the part of you that can also provide quick and easy interpretations of your dreams.
when i started doing this process, i wasn’t thinking of interpreting dreams. my goal was to connect with my own source of guidance, which definitely happened. i started by making this connection, then, from this peaceful place, asking questions about my spiritual growth, the universe, etc. to bypass my rational mind, i would write the responses out just as david w. recommends, without analyzing the information flowing out onto the paper. in fact, my guidance wouldn’t give me enough words (and still won’t) to make sense of the message until i started writing. so i would start with a few words, like “the first thing …” and write out the message, with the conscious intent of not interpreting it or adding to it.
i was amazed with the results. this process completely changed my life. i became so excited to get up in the morning and do my soul centering that i would be up at 4 or 5am. my whole life changed. then i somehow started using this guidance to get information about my dreams, again writing out the message without evaluating it until it was done. i discovered that i could interpret dreams in a matter of minutes, where the books i had read recommended long, drawn out processes that could take weeks, with a lot of rational mind analysis that interrupts the flow from the unconscious and probably provides distorted results.
having learned about subpersonalities and different methods of hypnotherapy, i realized that, as david mentions, everything and everyone in the dreams referred to parts of me, and i started including conversations with the different things in the dreams to find out what they were there for. for example, if i dreamed that my car had a flat tire, i would talk with the flat tire and ask it what the problem was, again writing out the response without evaluating it. you can ask a winding road what it represents or what the heavy backpack you are carrying represents or what a dark figure that is following you represents. you can talk with anything or anyone in the dream. if you relax with it, they will all respond and you can explore all of the details.
at some point, i also learned that i could play out a dream, if the part i could recall didn’t seem to be complete. in my relaxed, soul-centered state, i just go back into the scene and let it play out, like day-dreaming. then i ask my guidance what it is about.
this is my “dream voice,” which are also my guides. from my experience, “doing the dream voice” is one of the most amazing things you can do to progress on your path. i love the statement (paraphrasing) that david w. made about how your dreams provide the most important message you need right now. if this is true, which i believe it is, i wouldn’t want to miss these messages for anything.
i analyze my dreams daily and i am continually amazed with the messages i receive, even when i can only remember what i call a small “snipit.” it doesn’t’ seem to matter, because the bigger picture develops by doing the process of communicating with my “dream voice.” this morning, for example, i noticed in retrospect that i wrote a full five pages of guidance from what i thought was not enough of a dream to amount to anything when i woke up and wrote out the snipits i could recall.
i also noticed that i can ask questions in the evening when i retire and receive responses in my dreams. or if i am involved in a project of some kind (my work is spiritual, writing, teaching, etc.), my “dream voice” provides detailed information to guide me. it just flows out effortlessly and reveals amazing things.
as david mentions, i find the key to be to relax and open to the voice without analysis. i also find that approaching it with childlike wonder can help for people who have a hard time getting started. don’t’ take it seriously; this may be the problem. this approach has worked for hundreds of people my husband and i have worked with personally and it does transform lives.
