greetings
i'm a musician. i play 30s,40s,50s jazz. i play double bass,my main instrument, and tenor sax.
it has happened often that i get into a piece of music and everything seems to 'flow'. you're not thinking of the notes or the changes, it all starts to coalesce into a wonderful moment of completeness. it feels like the brain has stopped and it is all coming from within. you are lost in the creative moment.
i remember once, i was practicing a piece at home on the bass. my eldest son, who is also a musician, was standing there watching and listening and i slipped into the flow. my eyes were closed and i was lost in this musical moment.
when it was finished, i opened my eyes and my son was standing there looking entirely raptured and i knew he had felt it too. suddenly there was this big smile on his face and with a little laugh he said, "that was good". he didn't need to say anything else. it was a wonderful moment.
