hey e.j. and everybody else, thanks for your answers. music is such a personal thing. i find some "spirit" in all kinds of music from rock and roll to folk, blues and even the occasional top ten hit. sometimes it's just the melody, sometimes it's the beat , sometimes the poetry of the lyrics, sometimes it's the fact that it makes we just want to sing along and sometimes it's the way the i just feel like dancing!

being a non musician i rely more on how a piece makes me feel than on the actual execution of the piece.

i think most musicians are musicians because their heart is in it wouldn't you say, and if their heart is in it wouldn't that mean that a bit of their spirit is in it?

just some of my thoughts.
