hi jeremy -
i relate to what you are saying. since last summer, i've been working on clearing up my diet and such. it can be hard sometimes, to bring oneself out of habits. i think what is working best for me is gradual reduction - what i mean is, taking one substance out of my diet (like soda), then taking another harmful substance out, etc. etc. it's less of a shock that way. unfortunately, since i started college this year, it's been a lot more difficult to find healthy foods.
video games... i get sucked up into those too, lol! i am, however, slowly working on cutting that down as well, sort of like what i mentioned above with foods - the time spent playing them could/should definately be used for more productive things. i've noticed recently, though, that the more i get myself in tune with the spiritual, the less desire i have to play games.
one simple key that is helping me cut down on them too is to observe what type of mindset a game is putting you in. there are some - as i'm sure you know - that easily bring up anger and frustration. "is it really fun/worthwhile if its just making me angry half the time?", i think to myself. so then, i'll just stop playing it. some games are better than others, i guess, but of course, none is probably best
