i have tried to fake it but my friends are very aware of these things. the worst is when someone orders a round of shots and expects you to be happy and take it even when i tell them i dont want to drink. i try to stay away from the bars as much as possible usually saying i have no money. it usually works until some big wedding or an old friend stops by. my best bet has been to nurse a beer for as long as possible.
