i am no bible scholar but revelation to me is not about revenge, it is about reaping karma.
the book of revelations is simply the recorded hallucinations of a sick man, i never understood why people take it so seriously.

...natural catastrophes are always for spiritual reasons, and can always be avoided.
natural catastrophes may contain spiritual opportunities, but to consider them as some sort of a spiritual consequence is somewhat myopic.

will we listen this time?
the paradox to me is being put to the test by the wicked and not being able to respond, this is why god rewards those who have persevered, the reward is eternal separation of those who do not believe what we do.
i think it's time to move on past this archaic and childish idea of reward and punishment. remember that according to the law of one the most 'evil' get the same 'reward' as the most holy. i'm not really sure how you can fit that into your ideas of christianity. humanity is always growing and evolving, and i can see no good reason to believe the exact same thing we believed 2,000 years ago, religous or otherwise. jmho...
