is the path of suffering really necessary? can't i learn my lessons without pain?

sure, seems to me that if you have an opportunity to move to a paradise then that is what you should do (providing you don't have to steal the money to get that opportunity!).

but if you don't get the opportunity it doesn't mean that you are being punished as much as you have other opportunities that aren't as glamorous!
