ra once stated that it is possible to travel through space without the use of technology but through the disciplines of the personality alone. much of castaneda's books revolve around the art of "shifting the assemblage point" to travel to different realities. this is where his books and the ra material can somewhat supplement each other.
on that note, one of the primary prerequisites for this kind of travel according to ra is to perceive the world as one, and if my memory does not fail me, this is not a highlighted idea in castaneda's books. however, that our perception of the world is generated from the position of our "assemblage point" (our energetic epicenter) implicitly suggests the "psychological relativity" between one person and another, and between one reality and another.
shamanism in general seems to breed men and women of power with mixed polarity. there might be a subtle reason behind this, that their abilities and exploration seem largely based on power and will, both of which can be useful on the positive path but easily oscillate one towards the negative, especially as one stumbles in the (3rd density) dark. manipulation, control, mastery, repression; all these are aspects of the negative side which one can easily manifest by exploring power and the deeper, magical portions of the will.
in any case, i agree with one 66 that the castaneda material was not sts, i see his characters as agents of spirit, and thus one could say that they always strove to serve the creator; don juan was portrayed to do so impeccably. indeed, i think that this illuminates the primary condition for developing the will and remaining in accordance with the positive path, that one's intent remains consonant with that of the creator or that of the deeper self.
actually, this seems to be inherent as an archetypal bias underlying the way the will functions and develops. the following quote by ra suggests that utilizing the will for more superfluous reasons demands a greater expenditure of energy:
"...the use of this energy of will, mind, and spirit for the things of the physical complex causes a far greater distortion in the lessening of the vital energy than would the use of this energy for those things which are in the deepest desires and will of the mind/body/spirit complex."
love and light,
makram
