ok. here's an alternate theory to chew on:

the guy said there are aliens in the bases, right? and the aliens are probably the ones who convinced the us people to build the tunnels in the first place. and if these aliens are the ones selling this disaster story, then we can make a wild guess which "team" they are batting for. hint: the words "loyal opposition" spring to mind.

in a negative society, the elites are tools that are used to control those below them. a lot of time and effort has been put into training these people to respond, over incarnations, to negative programming/conditioning. they represent a significant investment to our dark friends in 4d. and it is the elites that are being herded underground with threats of annihilation should they stay on the surface.

if 2012 goes as ra says it will, then there is a risk of all, or a significant percentage of, those useful humans being lost to the 2012 experience should they go through it in an uncontrolled environment. then they would have to be pursued, compromised, and re-trained in their next incarnative experiences.

in addition, just as some sources say that our inner planes are inhabited by entities that long ago were convinced to make the switch to the negative path, perhaps a similar destiny is being planned for those now in 3d to take up similar roles once the switch to 4d is made. what if, surprise surprise, they don't get out after 5 years? if these aliens are as powerful as we are led to believe, how hard would it be for some alien to step in front of the door in 2017 and simply say, "oh yes. i'm sorry. we forgot to tell you that you won't be leaving. oh, and we have jobs for each of you. here's your employee manual. there will be an exam on tuesday, so study up!"

assuming we live in a world where planet x and aliens exist, it could all be a huge trick. in which case, we all have about a 50-50 chance of being right.

and if we're wrong, hey. life is short and brutish. why prolong the inevitable by scuffling underground? when i was a child, i wanted to be done in (not immediately, of course) by a lightning bolt. but a planet? how cool is that?
