where do you find such thought provoking reading? perhaps i'm a born cynic(in its truest form of the word), because i don't get too moved to participate in the latest cause or cling to some social concept held dear by the majority. i especially wouldn't be surprised at all by what is proposed by the author. for me, it all comes down to a passage of scripture that has stayed with me through the years: ". . .know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with god? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of god." james 4:4. i've researched that passage a great deal, checking the original greek and the roots of the words involved, and what i've come up with is really quite revealing. in essence, the passage is referring to the love of the world and its adornments, society and what is the latest acceptable mode of behavior. in our times, it could mean fashion or having the latest gadget. or perhaps, caring about what is going on with celebrity and their lifestyle. maybe even what is happening within the political halls of power and the power game. caring about how to effect change and be important in the larger scheme of worldly affairs. these things are all snares to what is important. and if you take a step back from the world you can see just what is going on and how insane it is. i don't wish to seem too preachy with scripture and all, but there are some gems in there. james goes further in explaining just what this author is describing: "from whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."
james 4:1-3.

so, my point is, if these things are being used this way, okay whatever. i am so removed from what is and isn't happening in this world anymore that i'm really never surprised about anything. "vanity, vanity. all is vanity, and nothing is new under the sun!"
