hi, i'm new to "forum" stuff, and i just hit esc (after reviewing your question one last time before clicking on submit )and erased my whole reply!
uugg...onward...
while seeking for the same, i found two books very helpful.
[note from moderator: please email seeks for books and authors].
while neither is what you asked for per se, they will give you a valuable foundation regarding the various translations of the bible, and what life was
like
for jews during the time of jesus.
what others said about the gospel of thomas is true. however it is strictly one saying after another, with no story to go along with them. it is a must if for no other reason than to contemplate what was in it that treatened those in power who sought to destroy it.
in my first attempt to reply i gave a couple of examples of info i found particularly interesting in the "misquoting" book, but now fearing i'll erase this again, i'm cutting this short. if this attempt is successful, and you'd like me to give you those examples separately, i will.
also, i saw a tv show on cayce that said he read the bible from cover to cover 65 times. once for each year of his life. i wonder which version he enjoyed reading the most?
happy trails...
