An author named Kurt Leland describes this figure as the possible expression of the dweller/protector archetype, which is that part of yourself (or not, depends on your worldview) that keeps you safe and prevents you from places you're not ready to go to. The armor would represent the 'covering' or 'toning down' of the high amount of energy that this being emits, which 'you' (or whoever) just isn't ready for.
I believe Monroe met 'guides' that were so bright he couldn't look at them, they had to shield or mute themselves down to avoid harming him. Kurt also describes these 'cloaked, shielded or otherwise 'covered' beings as how we represent them (that is, they're not really wearing armor, it's how our consciousness interprets the idea of cloaking).

The reason that I connect your experiences with the 'dweller' these authors describe is because of the glowing red eyes. This is very typical of dwellers, at least in my experience.

btw, I have looked in the mirror a few times and have seen a variety of figures- a 'ghostly' me, a being that didn't look human (like me, but the eyes were 'wrong') and other things too, including an opening to somewhere else instead of a reflection.
