1) I haven't yet done any intensive energy work, but I do have the PDF that describes NEW in full (I just need to find the time to read it and follow the instructions). Part of the problem is that I have to do my energy work / astral projection work in secret, because my mom for some reason believes AP is associated with evil / bad stuff (I think she did a Google awhile back, when my friend introduced me to AP, and found some stuff she didn't like). Actually, maybe you might have some suggestions as to how I might turn her negative view of AP into a more positive one? I've just learned that when she's antsy about something, I'd rather not push it...
If it's because of religious belief, go to the book of Acts in the bible and read the bit about Gifts of the Spirit. In either that one or John he describes AP quite matter of factly. If you want I'll get you the quotes. Not for you to argue about it, but for you to know and feel better about. The problem with certain things is that people of faith believe what their religious leaders tell them (or worse, what their culture tells them and make assumptions without actually doing their homework.)
Anyway, NEW is not something you do that anyone will notice- it's running energy through your body. I recommend you learn to raise energy at the very least to make things easier. You do this while laying down, sitting, or reclining- as if you were 'taking a nap'. Heck, I used to do it (when I was learning) in waiting rooms, car lines, and no one asked. If anyone did I'd say I was tired and resting my eyes. Nothing to chant, nothing to say or do. But it's up to you.

2) I sort of just lay there and wait for the physical body to fall asleep, using breath awareness to keep myself focused, then I start trying to use the elevator / ladder technique to go into trance (though I have to admit I have no idea if I'm doing it right), and then I try to use the rope technique to project. The thing is, I tend to have trouble keeping focused on the task at hand, and occasionally I fall asleep and forget what I was doing. I'm trying to improve my focus, though, and my surface mind (what RB calls the memo pad) doesn't give me too much trouble with tasks / worries, although my favorite music tracks do creep in a lot.

Thanks,
Andy Two things you can add to this routine, especially at the end, are energy body loosening (either before or after trance work, or both) and when you've done it all, wait before doing the exit technique, and observe the darkness for a bit, listening to your natural earhiss. When things begin to change (either the hiss becomes loud noises or voices (yes, that does happen) or when you start to 'see' things, or get vibrations, then is when you start rope or whichever exit technique you prefer. Make sure you're already in deep trance (by observing what I described) before tugging on that rope, and you will probably get out in no time.
